Oven-dried apples: an alternative recipe

We’re going to walk you through the process of making delectable oven-dried apples today, which will prove that sometimes the simplest things are the best! These crunchy apple chips are a thousand times healthier than bagged chips and can be just as satisfying when you’re hungry! We first shared with you cinnamon-spiced dried apple slices a while back, but the recipe was basically focused on the use of the dehydrator. We have created this version so that individuals without access to a specialised instrument can still enjoy crunchy, dried apples baked in a regular home oven.

How are apples dried? You can dry them in the oven. It is certainly possible to dehydrate apples without a dehydrator (pardon the pun), but be prepared for longer processing periods! This means that your oven will need to be partially open for the entire two and a half hours that the preparation takes. Considering the energy consumption involved, it is a good solution for occasional drying but not for everyday use. To obtain the same result with the dryer, it would take a maximum of 30 minutes. Many people use sun-dried apples, but the times obviously vary.

Recipe oven-dried apples

Preparation oven-dried apples

  • Wash the apples, remove the core and seeds, and slice them thinly with a mandolin. Make sure to keep the thickness of the slices as uniform as possible.
  • To ensure complete drying, place the apple slices on absorbent paper. Transfer the apple slices to a baking tray lined with baking paper, making sure they are arranged nicely and without overlapping.
  • Now cook the apples in the oven for 2.5 hours at 100°; keep the oven door slightly open to release any steam that may have accumulated.
  • Halfway through cooking, remove the apples and turn them over carefully. Once the apples are thoroughly dried, turn off the oven and allow them to cool slowly while still in the oven.
  • If you like spiced apples, drizzle lemon juice over the apple slices.
  • Season it with plenty of brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and ginger before putting it in the oven.
  • The dehydrated apples can be kept in a vacuum bag once they’ve cooled. Label and store in a cold, dry location. They will keep their freshness for about nine months.

Ingredients oven-dried apples

  • 2-3 apples

Oven-dried apples have an extra advantage

As we’ve already mentioned, dried fruit chips can be eaten as a satisfying snack, but these dried apples can also be used as a great addition to breakfast cereals. They can be added to yoghurt, homemade cereal bars, muesli, muffins, plumcakes, and other cakes. Therefore, having dehydrated apples ready at home is an invaluable resource for ideas and opportunities.

Mele essiccate al forno

Remember that apples retain their nutritional value for a considerably longer period of time after they have been dried. After the apple’s water content is reduced, the slices are preserved for a long time through meticulous drying. But there are a few things to keep in mind, like storing them in airtight containers and keeping them in a cold, dry pantry.

We can never go without Apple chips.

Preparing dried apple chips has the benefit of allowing for easy quantity control in convenient sachets for single dosing. In this manner, we can always bring this lunch with us wherever we go—to work, school, the beach, or a picnic!

We frequently ride the bus or train for several hours when travelling. We can always pack healthy food for our trips with us when we travel, thanks to apple chips. A quick and easy dinner that maintains all the health benefits of one of the most significant fruits in our diet. Does eating dried apples really cause weight gain? Not at all.

Do we have any dried recipes? Of course, yes!
